About World Thinking Day
World Thinking Day is celebrated on 22 February by Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the world. The date is the shared birthday of Robert Baden-Powell, founder of Scouting, and Olave Baden-Powell, the World Chief Guide.
World Thinking Day is organised by the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). It falls on 22 February because both Robert Baden-Powell, who founded the Scout movement, and his wife Olave Baden-Powell, who became World Chief Guide, were born on that date.
The idea is for members to think about their fellow Guides and Scouts in other countries, celebrate the international friendship of the movement and reflect on issues affecting girls and young women. It has been part of Guiding for nearly a century.
How it is marked
Guide and Scout units hold special meetings, camps, games and ceremonies. Members learn about Guiding in other countries, work on activities linked to the day and often raise funds to support Guiding around the world. Many Scout groups also mark 22 February as Founder’s Day or B-P Day.
In India, units of The Bharat Scouts and Guides mark the date with gatherings, service activities and programmes in schools and local groups.
